Trillium Uplands Planning

Tigard, Oregon 2008

Trillium Uplands was a study for a mid-size residential community on a multi-acre sloped site with a southerly aspect. The design concept explored the site’s particular qualities, including a significant grove of large, native conifers, a healthy understory, and remnant fruit-bearing trees, to generate a series of design proposals and guide the overall development. Additional visual connections to the surrounding neighborhood and valley beyond were accentuated.

The slope, sun, and strong directional orientation suggested natural access routes for bike, auto, and pedestrian traffic within the site, as well as connections to the larger transit network. Home-site positioning allows for passive and active home energy harvesting, conservation of the existing tree canopy, rainwater collection, and new cultivated garden landscapes.
