Yellowfish Residence

Mancos, Colorado 2006

This house was originally built in the 1990s and is located on a bluff with views to Mesa Verde. The existing site landscaping includes drought tolerant native plants, local rocks, and stone outcroppings.

The existing house had no sheltered entryway from the west; the clients wanted a functional and welcoming transition area that also included access to a home art and carpentry studio. The new metal roof construction was designed to provide shade and moderate glare from the sun while allowing for views and natural ventilation. The construction of exposed timber framing, new windows, and doors was integrated with stucco elements to match the existing house. The interior work included cast concrete flooring surfaces, wood trim, and storage for the entry foyer.
