Race Car Resurrections

Portland, Oregon 2013

Located in the Overlook Neighborhood of North Portland, this old garage had been empty for a number of years before being reopened for vintage car restoration. The original building was constructed in 1910 of board formed cast-in-place concrete walls with a low slope roof of wood framing. The owner’s intent is to have a well crafted industrial setting that also reflects the colors and typography of the building’s historical life.

In addition to a storefront design taking advantage of the existing tall opening heights at the Killingsworth Street frontage, the project also included proposals for voluntary seismic upgrade strategies, and an environmental report supported through the Portland Development Commission’s Development Opportunity Services Program. Our role included assisting the owner to plan for phasing of the project due to tight budget constraints.
