The competition location was modeled on a typical 100’ x 100’ site found within many Inner Eastside Portland neighborhoods. The design goal was to accommodate dense multi-family housing in a traditional single-family neighborhood.

 

Our design explored ways to maximize solar access, allow for diffused light and natural ventilation, and provide private courts associated with each home in addition to a shared courtyard. This shared space incorporates car, bike, and pedestrian connections with direct access from the public street.
