Collins View ADU

Portland, Oregon 2014

This Accessory Dwelling Unit is an addition to a LEED Platinum house in Southwest Portland that we designed several years ago. The addition makes use of some existing, conditioned area on the property  and extends to the south and west of the existing house for more access to day-lighting.

Our clients were interested in applying to their ADU the same kinds of environmentally friendly design strategies and technology that we put to use in their existing home. Consequently, the addition receives natural ventilation via operable glazing at ground and ceiling. This is supported by an Energy Recovery Ventilator and conditioned with an air-to-air heat pump system. Like the house, the addition is designed to run without fossil fuels, has metered solar electric panels, and a heat pump provides for the domestic hot water.
