North Beach Peninsula Residence

Long Beach, Washington 2007

The project site is located on the upper Long Beach peninsula; the house faces the Pacific Ocean shore from the vantage of the dune ridge. The western exposure of the house is shielded by an extended roof and porch construction. The floor level of the major public areas of the house, and the main bedroom, is set atop of the ridge for the light and long views. The guest rooms, mechanical room and garage are arranged under the main floor behind and below the dune.

Exposed timber beams and columns are used for the larger spans within the open plan areas. Several exposed concrete shear walls extend up from the foundation to the roof level to brace the entire building against wind and earthquake. All the windows and glass doors are of wood with an extruded aluminum exterior cladding. The exterior siding and trim is stained cedar.
