METRO Design Competition Category 1

Portland, Oregon 2008

Requirements of the competition were to design a mixed-use living and commercial project on a multi-acre parcel of land within a forest and riparian creek zone. Our design approach drew from studies and observations of the regional habitat characteristics and environmental qualities.

Our proposal focused on providing contiguous greenways and flyway fingers across the site to support, enhance, and intensify the cultivated and native riparian forest landscapes, common spaces, eco-swales, and building development. These flyways were organized as directional clusters running concurrent with the greenway tracks. The form of the built environments, within the tracks, ebbs and flows based on use: housing, gardens, orchards, recreation fields, retail, neighborhood daycare, wood shop, craft center, fitness gym, offices, solarium, and greenhouses.
