The locale for this project is the Multnomah Channel adjacent to Sauvie Island, with nearby wildlife and habitat preserves and a direct experiential connection to the fluctuations of the river channel water-level.
This floating structure was originally built with a casual approach, and perhaps was only for seasonal use. The client wishes to improve upon the existing infrastructure to meet comfort and energy use goals, as well as to invest in the maintenance of the “houseboat” typical for these types of river structures. Importance is also placed on connecting indoor and outdoor living areas via larger windows and doors, and improving the porch and moorage areas of the “float” while arranging for more useful space and storage in the compact plan.
